Scratchcard is a track on the studio rarities disc of the 2012 James boxset The Gathering Sound.
The track was previewed on the band’s Autumn 2000 theatre tour and recorded during the sessions for Pleased To Meet You. Tim advises sleeping with and taking drugs with the rich and famous to create an image of wealth. The chorus has a catchy “oh lordy, oh lordy” line that you will not be able to get out of your head. It never saw the light of day as only one single was released from the album and Michael mysteriously said in an interview “it changed into something else”

You thought that you knew yourself
Until you found yourself naked
With a total stranger
I know you could use some help
To fathom out your mind
You said the meaning of life is wealth
You've got to hang out with the rich and famous
They have so much more to say
Than the ugly and the damned
And you don't care
And they won't care
Someone's coming up to you
Must pay
Now hurt
We'll see you fall
And now you're coming up to my brick wall
Oh lordy, oh lordy
Really I must learn some self control
Oh lordy, oh lordy
Really I must learn some self control
In order to love yourself
You've got to sleep around with the rich and famous
They know how to live like kings
They never pay the bill
If you want to increase your wealth
You've got to take drugs with the rich and famous
One touch shines through love's heart
The story always sells
Oh lordy, oh lordy
Really I must learn some self control
Oh lordy, oh lordy
Really I must learn some self control
Oh lordy, oh lordy
Really I must learn some self control
Oh lordy, oh lordy
Really I must learn some self control
Oh lordy, oh lordy
Really I must learn some self control
Oh lordy, oh lordy
Really I must learn some self control
Oh lordy, oh lordy
Really I must learn to lose control
Oh lordy, oh lordy
Really I must learn some self control
Until you found yourself naked
With a total stranger
I know you could use some help
To fathom out your mind
You said the meaning of life is wealth
