“You asked (okay – pleaded, pestered, perhaps even profaned) and finally we’ve delivered: a new live double album and DVD! Including a beautiful photo-book set, as well as coloured vinyl, deluxe double CD, signed prints (get in early!), t-shirts, the full works.
“As requested by many lovers of the band – a live DVD and album to capture the spirit of the gigs of the last few years. Hopefully this will help us through the long nights of lockdown – reliving these gatherings of intimacy and passion. Thank you for coming along for the ride in the crazy world of James.” – Tim
In a year feeling anything but ordinary, this special collection reminds us of the power and connection of live music.
Released just in time for St. Nick to get his hands on it for you…11th December 2020. Sorry we can’t put on one of our traditional winter tours to warm your quarantined cockles but hopefully this is the next best thing.”
Even The Stars – Review: James - Live in Extraordinary Times
14th December 2020 |Live In Extraordinary Times is a beautifully presented package that has clearly been a labour of love for a band that is fiercely proud of their live performances. It’s in the flesh that they come alive and dismiss all the lazy perceptions of them as a band. The choice of songs here alone does that. Whilst it’s almost impossible to recreate the thrill of a live concert on a shiny disc, this DVD captures a band at the peak of its power – as their Come Home Live video did back in 1990. The Philadelphia concert is the most powerful visual representation of the band they’ve ever released. It’s an absolutely essential document to understand one of the country’s most misunderstood and underappreciated bands in their most natural environment.

Review: Roman Gokhman at Riff Magazine
Booth jumped off the stage and then hopped from picnic table to picnic table before singing in a sea of fans who had encircled him. That song rolled right into James’ biggest hit, “Laid,” off 1993’s album of the same name. The energetic performance got most people up from their seats as Booth remained in the crowd.

Review: Markus Akre at Twin Cities Media
Dang, I forgot just how great a band James is! There are so many layers to the sound the 7 band members produce. James has a catalog of over 300 songs and they make up their set list to suit their mood each night (and that there tells you everything you need to know about the level James is playing on).
“Laid” the one song everyone knows and catapulted James into the public eye in the US. Not on the set list, not played, not a single note. And as much as fans (myself included) may have wanted to hear that one song, it would have taken away from a perfect set. Well played James, well played.

Review: Jeff Miers at Buffalo News
I walked into Canalside on Thursday expecting an enjoyable nostalgia trip co-headlined by a pair of the finest English bands of the 1980s/early ’90s alternative rock era. I left having had what felt an awful lot like a religious experience. That religious experience was delivered by James…
Singer Tim Booth arrived on the boards looking a bit like an ascetic monk/rock star hybrid. He spent the next hour-plus acting as a shaman, taking us all to a church where tough questions were asked, real answers were sought, and, at times, true transcendence was attained.
Just as moving was final encore “Sometimes,” an anthemic piece that is more spiritual paean than pop song. “Sometimes/When I look deep in your eyes/I swear I can see your soul,” Booth sang. And we knew exactly what he meant.

Through the main set, James go on to do wonderful performances of three more Living In Extraordinary Times songs: Leviathan, What’s It All About and Many Faces. Curiously, the audience age gap issue that was apparent at the start of the night with album opener Hank reappears with each of these three songs. This is particularly the case with the main set closing pro-humanity sing along Many Faces. Many older attendees are quite hesitant to respond to the positive message of the song, whereas younger audience members join in wholeheartedly.

Review: EvenTheStars.co.uk
“The encore might be one of the worst kept secrets of the night as a curtain is pulled back to reveal the Love Music Community Choir who recently posted a video of How Hard The Day from Living In Extraordinary Times online and were invited by the band to perform with them. It’s How Hard The Day that starts the encore, the song lifted in the chorus by several dozen voices that transform the impact of the song’s chorus.”
